Tomorrow is National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day
! If you've been thinking about getting a pet we have so many great shelters here in Winnipeg that have pets looking for homes.
I had a chance to talk to Carla from the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter
on Portage Avenue about how to adopt one from their shelter and some things you need to take into consideration:
Commitment: You and your family should be prepared for a long term commitment, anywhere from 12-20 years.
Where you live/lifestyle: Are pets allowed in your apartment, condo or house?
Would you be able to play with them or walk them daily?
Expenses: Just like humans dogs need medical attention. Vaccinations, check ups, sometimes medications and surgery.
Spaying and neutering is also something to consider. They will also need a license from the City of Winnipeg.
If you call yourself the dog whisperer, you can train the pet on your own but if you aren't sure obedience classes are available.
